The Parable of the Weeds (Matthew 13:26-30): A Quest for its Original Formulation and its Role in the Preaching of the Historical Jesus

submitted by loleb 2 years and 1 month ago

Acknowledging the explanation of the parable of the Weeds (Tares, Darnel) as secondary, this article attempts to show that the parable itself could very well be original, though heavily retouched by the author of the First Gospel. After a comparison with the version offered by the Gospel of Thomas (G.Th. 57) and an analysis of the elements added by Matthew and/or tradition, I attempt to reconstruct the original version of the parable and see how it fits into the framework of the historical Jesus’ understanding and proclamation of the Kingdom.

What counts as original appropriation?
submitted by sahamplontotean 2 years and 4 months ago
I here defend historical entitlement theories of property rights against a popular charge. This is the objection that such theories fail because no convincing account of original appropriation exists. I argue that this argument assumes a certain reading of historical entitlement theory and I spel...
