There are no reports or images of the blood supply to the lymphatic vessels. One lower limb of an unembalmed human cadaver was studied. Hydrogen peroxide (6%) was applied to find the lymphatic vessels by using a surgical microscope. The vessels were injected with a radio-opaque mixture and dissected. During the dissection, several sites of paralymphatics arteriole nutrient (PAN) vessels were found in close proximity to collecting lymphatic vessels in the medial aspect of the leg. The caliber of the lymphatic vessels was about 1 mm. The caliber of PAN vessels was <0.1 mm. The blood vessels were seen running along the lymphatic vessels. Some of them crossing the lymphatics and supplying the fatty tissue nearby and some running parallel on the lymph vessel walls. Histology sections show different-sized PAN vessels containing blood cells situated close to the lymphatic wall and within the lymphatic vessel wall. PAN vessels have been found and described. It will upgrade our anatomical knowledge and also be of benefit for medical and/or scientific research. Clin. Anat., 2010.

The involvement of blood microvessels, representing the anatomic site of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), in brain damage induced by prenatal exposure to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and/or valproic acid (VPA) was studied in four-week-old rats. The immunogold procedure was applied for localization at t...
An age-related decline in functioning of the innate and adaptive immune systems results in increased susceptibility to infections (e.g. influenza) and decreased responses to vaccination in elderly people. A satellite symposium held during the xixth IAGG World Congress of Gerontology and Aging in ...
The pleura is a monolayer of mesothelial cells covering the lung and inner surface of the chest cavity, creating the pleural space. The mesothelial cells rest on a matrix of collagen, elastic fibers, blood vessels, and lymphatics, which allow the lung and chest to expand and contract, protected f...
The growth and remodeling of lymphatic vessels (lymphangiogenesis) is, much like blood vessel growth, a fundamental and dynamic cellular process. Like other activities crucial for development, poorly controlled or inappropriate vascular growth is implicated in cancer (increased lymphatic vasculat...
Scientists at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute have discovered a key molecule needed to kill the blood vessels that supply tumors. The research team from the institute's Molecular Genetics of Cancer and Cancer and Haematology divisions found that for anti-cancer therapies that target tumor bloo...
Cancer initiation and progression are multistep events that require cell proliferation, migration, extravasation to the blood or lymphatic vessels, arrest to the metastatic site, and ultimately secondary growth. Tumor cell functions at both primary or secondary sites are controlled by many differ...
To describe a funduscopic finding in dogs that is referred to as Pigmented Paravenous Retinochoroidal Atrophy (PPRCA).Animals studied: Over a period of 24 years of ophthalmological practice, five cases of a characteristic paravenous retinal atrophy were observed in dogs.Procedures: A comprehensi...
Late recurrent melanoma (MM) is rare. In the present study, we analysed the frequency of late recurrent MM in south-eastern Germany.Patients and methods In our centre, 2314 MM patients were documented (1972-2001). A total of 1881 patients in stage I or II (AJCC) with a follow-up of >=10 years wer...
The microvasculature of the kidney is organized in a manner that permits regional distribution of blood flow to the cortex, outer medulla, and inner medulla. The resistance elements of the cortical microcirculation include interlobular arteries, afferent arterioles, and efferent arterioles. Effer...
Normal tissue function requires adequate supply of oxygen through blood vessels. Understanding how blood vessels form is a challenging objective because angiogenesis is vital to many physiological and pathological processes. Unraveling mechanisms of angiogenesis would offer therapeutic options to...
