Some variations in lymphatic drainage of selected bronchopulmonary segments in human lungs

submitted by CamLive 2 years and 5 months ago

Interest in the role of the pulmonary lymphatic system in the pathophysiology of pulmonary and systemic diseases induced us to carry out anatomical research on the lung lymphatic system in the Polish population. The aim of the study has been to evaluate whether lymphatic vessels respect bronchopulmonary segment borders and to determine how often lymphatic vessels run to nodes of another lymphatic region.A block of organs comprised of the lungs with the trachea, larynx and tongue, the heart and esophagus was removed from the cadavers at autopsy. The research involved 96 lungs (48 left and 48 right), which were taken.

Atypical polycystic echinococcosis without liver involvement in Brazilian patients
submitted by acohen 2 years and 5 months ago
Echinococcus vogeli is known to occur in the neotropics, causing polycystic echinococcosis (PE) in humans. The liver and lungs are the most commonly affected organs. In this paper, we report six cases of human PE in the mesenteries without primary liver involvement. All patients, four males and t...

Copy Number Variations and Psychiatric Disorders
submitted by AmareJaxo 2 years and 5 months ago
Copy number variations (CNVs) are gains and losses of DMA segments in the human genome, and form genetic variations. Recent studies have shown that CNVs contribute to the phenotypic variation in humans and are associated with complex diseases, including psychiatric disorders. Emerging evidence in...

Identification of significant regional genetic variations using continuous CNV values in aCGH data
submitted by amorsolih2 2 years and 5 months ago
Array comparative genomic hybridization (aCGH) provides a technique to survey the human genome for chromosomal aberrations in disease. The identification of genomic regions with aberrations may clarify the initiation and progression of cancer, improve diagnostic and prognostic accuracy, and guide...

Interaction between bone morphogenetic proteins and endothelin-1 in human pulmonary artery smooth muscle
submitted by cgchemiro 2 years and 5 months ago
Genetic mutations in bone morphogenetic protein receptor 2 (BMPR2) have been shown to occur in patients with familial and idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). However the interactions between ligands for this receptor and other mediators implicated in heritable PAH have not been inve...

Cervical lymph nodes are found in direct relationship with the internal carotid artery: Significance for the lymphatic drainage of the brain
submitted by tamfriebarg 2 years and 5 months ago
The brain has no conventional lymphatics, but solutes injected into it drain along artery walls and reach lymph nodes in the neck. This study seeks to identify cervical lymph nodes related to the human internal carotid artery (ICA) that could act as the first regional lymph nodes for the brain. B...

Artificial neural network modelling of concentrations of nitrogen, phosphorus and dissolved oxygen in a non-point source polluted river in Zhejiang Province, southeast China
submitted by Dora 2 years and 5 months ago
A back-propagation algorithm neural network (BPNN) was developed to synchronously simulate concentrations of total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP) and dissolved oxygen (DO) in response to agricultural non-point source pollution (AGNPS) for any month and location in the Changle River, southea...

Sialyl Lewis X Expression and Lymphatic Microvessel Density in Primary Tumors of Node-negative Colorectal Cancer Patients Predict Disease Recurrence
submitted by eve 2 years and 5 months ago
Up to 30% of curatively resected colorectal cancer patients with tumor-negative lymph nodes, show disease recurrence. We assessed whether these high-risk patients can be identified by examining primary tumors for the following blood and lymphatic vasculature markers: A) sialyl Lewis X (sLeX), vas...

D fusion of intravascular ultrasound and coronary computed tomography for in-vivo wall shear stress analysis: a feasibility study
submitted by ogplont 2 years and 5 months ago
Wall shear stress, the force per area acting on the lumen wall due to the blood flow, is an important biomechanical parameter in the localization and progression of atherosclerosis. To calculate shear stress and relate it to atherosclerosis, a 3D description of the lumen and vessel wall is requir...

The Occurrence and Age Distribution of Harris Lines in Turkey
submitted by sinteno 2 years and 5 months ago
Harris lines are widely accepted as indicators of physiological stress and provide valuable data for determining the extent and nature of the physiological stress factors acting on a human community. Traditionally, Harris lines are studied in skeletal populations. In the study reported here, data...
