A numerical model of the nonstationary process of plastic forming in the case of hot open volume stamping of a wheel gear forge at a crank-type hot forging press is presented. The rigid-plastic model of the blank material with allowance for the change in the average yield load depending on the deformation rate, temperature, and kinematics of the press actuator is used.
Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler consists of a number of heat transfer tubes that have relatively larger net area than that of flat type tubes. The surface of the tubes is made up with lots of grooves and protrusions for enlarging the net heat transfer area. Most tubes are manufactured thro...
Due to the complex three-dimensional (3D) geometry and tooling design, mass production of precision spur bevel gears by machining or conventional forging technology is impeded by numerous stubborn barriers to date. Cold rotary forging, an innovative incremental metal forming process, has great po...
In the present contribution, recent developments of coatings for hot stamped steels are reviewed. The use of bare steel in the initial hot stamping technology is discussed, including the application of lubricant oils which are used as oxidation inhibitors on bare steel surfaces. The aluminized co...
Magnesium alloy AZ31 shows excellent ductility and formability at elevated temperatures, and using hot splitting spinning it can be formed into a structural component subjected to impact loadings, such as, a wheel hub of aero undercarriage or kinds of light whole wheels. In this paper, based on t...
The site applications of cast hot-forging dies made from a new type cast steel were performed and several of the dies experienced brittle fracture. Analysis of the operating modes and evaluation of mechanical properties were used to establish relations among failure patterns and lives of dies. Th...
A technology has been developed for making carbon-ceramic composite refractories by combining carbon fibers as reinforcing component with a mixture matrix, which allows one to make refractory components of various sizes and geometry, including thin-walled large constructions. The heat resistance ...

This paper describes a 3D finite element model used for optimizing the deep-drawing formability of a commercially pure titanium cap designed for the cosmetic industry. The results obtained from a specific tooling and various tensile tests highlight a strong anisotropic behavior of the material (e...

During T-shaped or Y-shaped tubes hydroforming the tube wall is flatten on the external die. This "in die" forming involves an important compressive stress along the outer normal direction directly related to the inflating pressure. In this particular case plastic instabilities and damage evoluti...
At most shipyards, flame bending has been widely used to fabricate curved shells. Since residual deformation of flame bending is produced by thermo-elastic-plastic strains, it is difficult to accurately achieve the desired shape. Therefore, mechanical bending processes such as multi-press forming...
Industrial experience shows that large superplastic forming (SPF) tools suffer from distortion due to thermal cycling, which apparently causes high temperature creep and plasticity. In addition to distortion, thermomechanical fatigue and fatigue-creep interaction can lead to cracking. The aim of ...
