Intense flexural and torsional waves in an elastic bar

submitted by odreonoc 2 months ago

The paper considers the problems of propagation of an intense flexural wave in a twisted bar and an intense torsional wave in a bar with an initial curvature in the context of a geometrically nonlinear model of flexural and torsional vibrations of an elastic bar.

Characteristics of the underwater explosion of a nonideally detonating aluminum-rich energetic material
submitted by aloisso3119 1 year and 1 month ago
An experimental study of the characteristics of the explosion of mixtures of ammonium perchlorate, aluminum, and nitromethane with a large excess of aluminum (1.45 to 1.66 g/cm3 in density) confined in plastic enclosures and immersed in small elastic-wall reservoirs with water is conducted. It is...

Microstructure, mechanical, EPR and optical properties of lithium disilicate glasses and glass-ceramics doped with Mnions
submitted by rbrawn 7 months ago
The microstructure, mechanical, EPR and optical properties of transparent MnO2doped lithium disilicate (LDS) glass-ceramics prepared by melt quenching technique followed by controlled crystallization have been studied. Microstructure of the glass-ceramics has been characterized with FE-SEM, TEM, ...

Electrostatic Quasi-Monochromatic Waves Downstream of the Bow Shock: Geotail Observations
submitted by morji 2 years and 5 months ago
The downstream region of the bow shock is a very turbulent region. Intense electrostatic waves in a wide frequency range can be observed. They are expected to be generated by electron beams which are accelerated in the transition re- gion of the bow shock. In the present paper, we focus on the El...

Climate change, related hazards and human settlements
submitted by akstudyinc 2 years and 5 months ago
The assessments of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC, 2007) have demonstrated that the climate is changing and the future will see higher sea levels, more heat waves, intense storms and heavy precipitation events and extension of drought areas. These climate hazards are having i...

Reticular variant of mid-dermal elastolysis after insertion of a pacemaker
submitted by BabyJamari 2 years and 5 months ago
Mid-dermal elastolysis is an unusual process characterized by the absence of the elastic fibres within the mid-dermis. The disappearance of these fibres causes fine wrinkles (type 1) or perifollicular protrusions (type 2) affecting the trunk, neck and arms. There is a female predilection, and mos...

Recent severe heat waves in central Europe: how to view them in a long-term prospect?
submitted by pondo579 2 years and 5 months ago
The study examines whether recent occurrences of severe heat waves in central Europe were exceptional in the context of past fluctuations, and estimates their recurrence probabilities under several climate change scenarios. Using data from a network of meteorological stations in the Czech Republi...

Phase-Averaged Flow Properties Beneath Microscale Breaking Waves
submitted by jaonnolz 2 years and 5 months ago
The phase-averaged characteristics of the turbulent velocity fields beneath steep short wind waves are investigated. A scheme was developed to compute the phase of individual wind waves using spatial surface displacement data. This information was used to analyze the two-dimensional velocity data...

Electric field effects on Young's molulus of nanowires
submitted by NoahAle 2 years and 4 months ago
As an important component of nanodevices and nanomachine constructions, the mechanical performance of nanowires (NWs) has been a subject of intense research efforts due to gaining relevance in controlling functionality of nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS); meanwhile, one of the characteristics...

Investigations of laser-driven radiative blast waves in clustered gases
submitted by rancei 2 years and 5 months ago
Radiative blast waves can be created by focusing intense laser pulses into highly absorbing clustered gases. By considering the plasma conditions these shocks can be categorized as optically thin radiative shocks, a regime of particular interest for laboratory astrophysics experiments. A periodic...

Temperature, comfort and pollution levels during heat waves and the role of sea breeze
submitted by JimSkyl 2 years and 5 months ago
During the summer of 2007 several Greek regions suffered periods of extreme heat, with midday temperatures of over 40°C on several consecutive days. High temperatures were also recorded on the east coast of central Greece, where a complex sea breeze circulation system frequently develops. The ...
