Seismic stability tests for models of fuel assemblies

submitted by beacamp 2 months ago

A procedure and results of seismic stability tests of full-scale models for fuel assemblies of the water-water energetic reactor VVER-1000 are presented. In the course of tests, kinematic loading of fuel assembly supports has been carried out in accordance with accelerograms of the motion of fuel assembly supports during an earthquake, which was obtained by computational methods. Based on the results of measurements of the vibrational response of fuel assemblies, transfer characteristics between the response of fuel assemblies and applied action (support acceleration) are determined. The lack of a resonant response of fuel assemblies at seismic loads is found.

submitted by izzy 2 years and 4 months ago
The seismic stability of the facade brick-masonry walls of the machinery building of the Beauharnois powerhouse near Montreal, Quebec, Canada were investigated numerically by use of non-linear models and applying experimental methods on site and on the IZIIS' seismic shake-table. The dynamic prop...

Seismic source mechanisms of tremor recorded on Arenal volcano, Costa Rica, retrieved by waveform inversion
submitted by pkimp234 6 months ago
Moment tensor inversions of volcanic tremor are synthetically tested and subsequently applied to a dataset recorded on Arenal volcano in 2005. We selected 15 harmonic tremor events showing an emergent but very clear onset with a fundamental frequency range of 0.8-1.5 Hz. These events constitute a...

Tomographic Imaging of the Seismic Structure Beneath the East Anatolian Plateau, Eastern Turkey
submitted by StephNathe 5 months ago
The high level of seismic activity in eastern Turkey is thought to be mainly associated with the continuing collision of the Arabian and Eurasian tectonic plates. The determination of a detailed three-dimensional (3D) structure is crucial for a better understanding of this on-going collision or s...

Experimental study on seismic deformation modes of reinforced-soil walls
submitted by amitgoyal1972 2 years and 5 months ago
A series of 1-g shaking table tests were conducted on 1m high reinforced-soil wall models. The physical models were subjected to harmonic sinusoidal-like time history input motions at frequencies of 2, 5, 8 and 10Hz. The effects of parameters such as soil density, reinforcement length, spacing an...

Local buckling restraint condition for core plates in buckling restrained braces
submitted by laesboptesto2270 2 years and 5 months ago
Buckling Restrained Braces (BRBs) are commonly used as bracing elements in seismic zones. A key limit state governing BRB design is to prevent flexural buckling. However, when the wall thickness of the steel tube restrainer is relatively small compared to the cross-section of the core plate, the ...

The Integrated Ocean Drilling Program's Expedition 302, the Arctic Coring Expedition (ACEX), recovered the first Cenozoic sedimentary sequence from the central Arctic Ocean. ACEX provided ground truth for basin scale geophysical interpretations and for guiding future exploration targets in this l...

An explicit split-step algorithm of the implicit Adams method for solving 2-D acoustic and elastic wave equations
submitted by darespaazoo 2 years and 5 months ago
We first transform the seismic wave equations in 2-D inhomogeneous anisotropic media into a system of first-order partial differential equations with respect to time t. And then we develop a new explicit split-step algorithm (SSA) to solve the transformed equations through using the implicit Adam...

Soil-structure interaction effects observed in the in situ forced vibration and pushover tests of school buildings in Taiwan and their modeling considering the foundation flexibility
submitted by lixandoliarte 2 years and 5 months ago
In the conventional structural seismic analysis, the rigid base model is usually adopted without considering the flexibility of the ground, leading to inaccurate estimation of the vibration characteristics and the seismic response of the structure. In 2007, several in situ tests were conducted by...

Seismic collapse risk of precast industrial buildings with strong connections
submitted by lixandoliarte 2 years and 5 months ago
A systematic seismic risk study has been performed on some typical precast industrial buildings that consists of assemblages of cantilever columns with high shear-span ratios connected to an essentially rigid roof system with strong pinned connections. These buildings were designed according to t...

Hybrid testing and modeling of a suspended zipper steel frame
submitted by lixandoliarte 2 years and 5 months ago
An analytical and experimental study has been conducted to evaluate the seismic performance of a three-story suspended zipper steel frame. The frame was concentrically braced and had zipper struts to transfer the unbalanced forces induced on the beams due to the buckling of the lower-story braces...
