Long-term dynamics and structure of shrews association (Soricidiae) in the mountain taiga of the Eastern Sayan

submitted by gonish 2 months ago

The dynamics of shrews association in the mountain taiga of the Eastern Sayan was considered during the years 1981 to 2010. The work was carried out in the territory of “Stolby” reserve. The structure of the association, the duration of cyclic changes of different species, effect of succession and climatic processes on the composition and structure of the community have been studied.

Temporal dynamics of genetic variability in a mountain goat (Oreamnos americanus) population
submitted by CristofTre 1 year and 2 months ago
The association between population dynamics and genetic variability is of fundamental importance for both evolutionary and conservation biology. We combined long-term population monitoring and molecular genetic data from 123 offspring and their parents at 28 microsatellite loci to investigate cha...

Structural dynamics and synchronous silver fir decline in mixed old-growth mountain forests in Eastern and Southeastern Europe
submitted by morgi 5 months ago
Studies of old-growth forests are becoming increasingly important for the improvement of silviculture and for understanding environmental changes. However, in Europe such forests are rare, fragmented and influenced by millennia of human activity. Comparative studies of old-growth forests across E...

Quantifying disturbance effects on vegetation carbon pools in mountain forests based on historical data
submitted by phainex 2 years and 4 months ago
Although the terrestrial carbon budget is of key importance for atmospheric CO2 concentrations, little is known on the effects of management and natural disturbances on historical carbon stocks at the regional scale. We reconstruct the dynamics of vegetation carbon stocks and flows in forests acr...

Spatial patterns and interspecific relations analysis help to better understand species distribution patterns in a Mediterranean high mountain grassland
submitted by ontatrap 2 years and 1 month ago
The aim of this study is to investigate distribution patterns of species occurring at definite spatial scales and to address the main ecological factors that structure a Mediterranean high mountain grassland community. Following the protocols of the GLORIA long-term study, four summits were sampl...

Comparative analysis of the flea fauna and its epizootic importance in the deserts of Southern Kazakhstan
submitted by alstock1 1 year and 3 months ago
Common features and interregional differences in the structure of the flea fauna from Moiynkum (Chu-Talas watershed), Eastern Kyzyl Kum and Betpak Dala are described. The main role of the fleas Xenopsylla gerbilli minax (Moiynkum and Betpak Dala) and X. gerbilli caspica (Eastern Kyzyl Kum) in the...

Palaeozoological insights into management options for a threatened mammal: southern Africa’s Cape mountain zebra (Equus zebra zebra)
submitted by ntgrzych 8 months ago
Promoting population growth of genetically distinct subpopulations of Cape mountain zebra (Equus zebra zebra) is crucial to the survival of the subspecies. Several important Cape mountain zebra reserves are dominated by fynbos vegetation, and population growth is limited by a lack of grassland ha...

Implications of fracturing mechanisms and fluid pressure on earthquakes and fault slip data in the east Iceland rift zone
submitted by DomiCohe 3 months ago
Comparison of the eroded off-rift zone left inactive by plate motion with the inner active seismic rift zone allows us to constrain the fracturing mechanisms. In eastern off-rift zone, we measured 423 fault slips (including normal and strike-slip faults). Inversion of fault slip data reveals the ...

Relative influence of habitat structure, species interactions and rainfall on the post-fire population dynamics of ground-dwelling vertebrates
submitted by egoroti 2 months ago
The long-term impacts of wildfires on animal populations are largely unknown. We used time-series data based on a tracking index, from coastal NSW spanning 28 years after a wildfire, to investigate the relative influence of habitat structure, species interactions and climate on post-fire animal ...

Long-Term Characterization of Free-Living and Particle-Associated Bacterial Communities in Lake Tiefwaren Reveals Distinct Seasonal Patterns
submitted by tryitnoow 2 days ago
Seasonal changes in environmental conditions have a strong impact on microbial community structure and dynamics in aquatic habitats. To better elucidate the response of bacterial communities to environmental changes, we have measured a large variety of limnetic variables and investigated bacteria...

Fine-scale spatial genetic structure and within population male-biased gene-flow in the grasshopper Mioscirtus wagneri
submitted by JameIbr 1 year and 1 month ago
Dispersal is a life history trait that plays a key role in population dynamics, determining gene flow and influencing the size, structure and persistence of populations. For these reasons, the study of the genetic consequences of dispersal can be considered a central topic in both conservation an...
