On the studies of marking behavior of brown bear in terms of tree diameter selectivity

submitted by PablAlfo 2 months ago

Original data on the diameter of bear trees and trees in the stand were collected during the years 2002–2009 at the Upper Pechora and in the Western Sayan. The data were processed using the two-sample Student’s test and correlation analysis. Comparison was based on the published data on the thickness of bear trees. Brown bears use the trees 2 to 89 cm in diameter for marking. As a rule bear trees exceed the trees of the stand in the average diameter that proves that bears select trees with larger diameter for marking.

submitted by lechin 1 month ago
45, pp. 274–289.The Castle Hayne Limestone (Middle Eocene, North Carolina), noted for its diverse macro-invertebrate fossils, was sampled to assess if Early Cenozoic brachiopods from eastern North America record any traces of biotic interactions. Systematic surveys of two North Carolina quarri...

Application of modeling and simulation tools for the evaluation of biocatalytic processes: A future perspective
submitted by ljv32 2 years and 5 months ago
Modeling and simulation techniques have for some time been an important feature of biocatalysis research, often applied as a complement to experimental studies. In this short review, we report on the state-of-the-art process and kinetic modeling for biocatalysis with the aim of identifying future...

Comparative performance of species-richness estimators using data from a subtropical forest tree community

We used survey data collected from a large plot (20 ha) of sub-tropical forest in the Dinghushan Nature Reserve, Guangdong Province, southern China, in 2005 to test the comparative performance of nine species-richness estimators (number of observed species, three species-individual curve models, ...

Selectivity of tree species as activity target of brown bear in taiga
submitted by alexjohn 2 years and 4 months ago
Data on trees with signs of activity of brown bears (Ursus arctos L.) were collected in Yar raion of Udmurtia, in the Pechora-Ilych State Reserve (Komi Republic), and the Sayan-Shusha State Reserve (Western Sayan, Krasnoyarsk krai). The forest stands in all studied areas consist of deciduous and ...

An analysis of Norway spruce stem quality in Baden-Wo¼rttemberg: results from the second German national forest inventory
submitted by corlahomilenck 2 years and 4 months ago
Additional information concerning the quality of growing stock in forests has been obtained for the first time in Baden-Wo¼rttemberg and Rheinland-Pfalz during the course of Germany's second national forest inventory (BWI 2; conducted during the period 2001-2002). In this article, the quality as...

What makes a late anchovy larva? The development of the caudal fin seen as a milestone in fish ontogeny
submitted by mene 2 years and 3 months ago
In this study, we provide evidence, based on field-collected data and published articles, that the stage of caudal fin formation, initiated by notochord flexion (NF), might be a developmental milestone in the early life history of engraulids and other fishes, associated with changes in capabiliti...

Noninvasive genetic studies of brown bears using power poles
submitted by libareas 2 years and 2 months ago
One difficulty in the conservation of endangered wildlife is the lack of reliable information on its status. This lack of knowledge can often be attributed to financial and logistic constraints as well as the lack of trained personnel to collect data. We test a simple method to study bears in the...

More than 100 years passed since 1906 when M. High accuracy curve fits for chirality, length and diameter dependent initial modulus of single walled carbon nanotubes
submitted by ldrogaa 1 year and 9 months ago
Many previous studies regarding the estimation of mechanical properties of single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) report that, the modulus of SWCNTs is chirality, length and diameter dependent. Here, this dependence is quantitatively described in terms of high accuracy curve fit equations. These...
