Data on eight morphological features of 29 Amur sleeper populations in water bodies of the acquired range of European Russia (50.0°–62.2°N) are presented and compared with 4 populations of the native range (43.5–48.2°N). It has been found that the formation of a certain number of vertebrae in the abdominal, transitional, and caudal segments of the axial skeleton in population groups recognized in the study is related to similar temperature conditions in the water bodies.
A new methodology to classify European North-East Atlantic transitional waters into ecological types has been developed based on the most important hydrological and morphological features that are likely to determine the ecology of aquatic systems in transitional waters.Hydrological indicators he...
The descriptions and pictures of egg capsules and syncapsules of 13 species of freshwater Pectinibranchia belonging to the families of Neritidae, Lithoglyphidae, Valvatidae, Bithyniidae, and Viviparidae, which are most common in the European part of Russia, are given. The data on the morphology o...
In December 2008, the draft programmes of measures (PoM) have been published in the EU member states, which list the measures that will be taken to enhance the ecological status of surface and groundwater bodies, and to reach the environmental objectives of the EU-Water Framework Directive (WFD)....
We examined the influence of water chemistry on zooplankton community structure in the unvegetated zone (open water) and among different types of macrophytes (helophytes and elodeids) in 12 ponds located in two types of catchment area (mid-forest and mid-field).An equal occurrence of rotifers and...

Some whales caught incidentally or illegally in Korean waters have been introduced into the seafood market. Thus, the Korea Coast Guard (KCG) monitors and reports incidentally caught whales. However, species identification of some carcasses based on morphological features is difficult and often i...
Parallel evolution is characterised by repeated, independent occurrences of similar phenotypes in a given habitat type, in different parts of the species distribution area. We studied body shape and body armour divergence between five marine, four lake, and ten pond populations of nine-spined sti...
The morphological structure of the soils in the forest areas of European Russia was analyzed. It was shown that most of the soils were formed under the impact of both biotic and anthropogenic factors. Soils with poorly differentiated profiles without podzolization features are typical for the lea...
Human-mediated translocations of species beyond their native ranges can enhance evolutionary processes in populations introduced to novel environments. We studied such processes in several generations of pink salmon Oncorhynchus gorbuscha introduced to the European North of Russia using a set of ...
New bryozoans characterized by a bilateral vertical colonies colonies—Cardioecia refuga sp. nov. (Tubuliporida), Elea lyapini sp. nov., E. troshkovensis sp. nov., and E. taylori sp. nov. (Melicerititida) from Middle Jurassic (Middle Callovian) of the Moscow region (Russia), and Biforicula legit...
Pseudospherulitic fibrous calcite (PFC) has been found as a major constituent in the massive limestone beds of the Quaternary mudflat-shallow lacustrine facies association (1.5-2m thick) that form part of facies associations of the Quaternary clastic-carbonate unit in the Farafra Oasis, Western D...
