The evaluation of the effect of environmental factors on the populations of the European hare (Lepus europaeus Pallas, 1778) in Central Siberia

submitted by EdwKolton 2 months ago

The study investigated the effects of climatic (depth and density of snow cover; air temperature; precipitation), biotic (land and avian predators), and human-caused (agriculture, traffic, and hunting) factors on the population dynamics of the European hare in some habitats.

Does handling reduce the winter body mass of the European hare?
submitted by shohraaz 2 years and 4 months ago
Winter body mass of the European hare Lepus europaeus Pallas 1778 was analyzed with a special focus on changes induced by handling. Data were obtained from large scale translocation (net catchments) during 1960-1980 in Poland. The influence of handling was compared using the mass of first-time ca...

Effect of agro-ecosystem components on the population dynamics of European brown hare (Lepus europaeus Pallas)
submitted by vrachebh234 1 year and 3 months ago
Most Hungarian ecosystems are agro-ecosystems dominated by crops. In these agroecosystems small game has a secondary, but nevertheless very important role. On the one hand, the wild fauna figures are an indicator of the sustainability of a system. On the other hand, game management and hunting ar...

Mitochondrial HVI sequence variation in Anatolian hares (Lepus europaeus Pallas, 1778)
submitted by bv43 2 years and 5 months ago
Variability and phylogenetic relationships of sequences of the hypervariable domain I (HVI) of the mitochondrial DNA was studied in 46 brown hares (Lepus europaeus) from Anatolia, to test the hypotheses that (i) hares from several islands off the Anatolian coast and from Cyprus are phylogenetical...

Parasitic infections of the European brown hare (Lepus europaeus Pallas, 1778) in south -western Slovakia
submitted by FisherEdwi 1 year and 4 months ago
A total of 74 European brown hares (Lepus europaeus Pallas, 1778), hunted during the winter seasons of 2006 and 2007, were examined by dissection for the presence of helminths and coprologically for protozoa. The animals came from five districts with a high population density of this species. Our...

Rabbit burrows or artificial refuges are a critical habitat component for the threatened lizard, Timon lepidus (Sauria, Lacertidae)
submitted by GranCannon 2 years and 1 month ago
Refuges are crucial for most animal species as they offer essential protection against predators and provide buffered environmental conditions to their occupants. Our data show that northern populations of the threatened ocellated lizard (Timon lepidus) depend on the availability of the burrows e...

Fire-induced taxonomic and functional changes in saproxylic beetle communities in fire sensitive regions
submitted by andybohra 2 years and 1 month ago
It is often suggested that fire acts as an environmental filter that selects species and functional traits, and reduces trait variability within communities, affecting ecosystem function and underlying services. This may be particularly important in fire-sensitive ecosystems, such as the central ...

Ephemeral Bio-engineers or Reef-building Polychaetes: How Stable are Aggregations of the Tube Worm Lanice conchilega (Pallas, 1766)?
submitted by koangmyot12 1 year and 9 months ago
Dense aggregations of tube-worms can stabilize sediments and generate oases for benthic communities that are different and often more diverse and abundant than those of the surroundings. If these features are to qualify as biogenic reefs under nature-conservation legislation such as the EC Habita...

Biodiversity and the mitigation of climate change through bioenergy: impacts of increased maize cultivation on farmland wildlife
submitted by larroeni6 1 year and 1 month ago
The public promotion of renewable energies is expected to increase the number of biogas plants and stimulate energy crops cultivation (e.g. maize) in Germany. In order to assess the indirect effects of the resulting land-use changes on biodiversity, we developed six land-use scenarios and simulat...

Demographic parameters of reintroduced grey partridges in central Italy and the effect of weather
submitted by libareas 2 years and 5 months ago
Grey partridge populations declined in Europe from mid-1950s onwards mostly due to modifications of agricultural cropping. In Italy, the decline was even more dramatic because of over-hunting and restocking with allochthonous birds. We carried out a research on a re-introduced population in Centr...

Genetic variants in the RELN gene are associated with otosclerosis in multiple European populations
submitted by KoltonDean 2 years and 5 months ago
Otosclerosis is a common form of hearing loss characterized by abnormal bone remodeling in the otic capsule. It is considered a complex disease caused by both genetic and environmental factors. In a previous study, we identified a region on chr7q22.1 located in the RELN gene that is associated wi...
