The results of many years’ monitoring of the number and distribution of dragonflies in the Chany area of the Baraba forest-steppe are presented. An estimation of the biomass carry-over by dragonflies from water bodies to land ecosystems is given. The data presented provide evidence of the important role of dragonflies in the migration of substances from water bodies to land.
The study deals with phytoplankton biodiversity in mesotrophic Sartlan Lake, a large natural saline water body in the south of West Siberia. Two different approaches are used: floristic and ecological cenotic. The former is good for determining and analyzing the phytoplankton species composition....
Deforestation is driven by a variety of factors, and has resulted in land use changes that threaten biodiversity, water and energy resources. However, lack of reliable data and survey information in Nigeria has made the estimation of the effect of deforestation difficult to establish. Consequentl...
Many environment problems of the full using of several categories of processing include mining, heat generators, direct combustion of forest fires, cement production, power plant, transport, medical waste. Dioxin/furan releases from these categories are one of these environment problems. Possible...
In this study, the Surface Energy Balance Algorithm for Land (SEBAL) method from the meteorological stations and remote sensing data was used to compute the evapotranspiration (ET) rate for the middle reach of Heihe River Basin in China, in order to analyse the distribution of ET over the whole a...
The Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) program is an integrated process of watershed assessment and management to address surface water quality impairment. The management of organic contaminants and nutrients is a primary concern in conserving surface water bodies. Watershed-scale pollutant loads si...
A rapid increase in anthropogenic nitrogen inputs has a strong impact on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. We have estimated net anthropogenic nitrogen accumulation (NANA) as an index of nitrogen (N) pollution potential in the Beijing metropolitan region, China. Our research provides a basis fo...
In the present study, an attempt has been made to estimate and validate the daily and monthly rainfall during the Indian summer monsoon seasons of 2008 and 2009 using INSAT (Indian National Satellite System) Multispectral Rainfall Algorithm (IMSRA) technique utilizing Kalpana-1 very high resoluti...
The evaluation of exposure to ambient temperatures in epidemiological studies has generally been based on records from meteorological stations which may not adequately represent local temperature variability. Here we propose a spatially explicit model to estimate local exposure to temperatures of...
Phosphorus (P) is one of main pollution elements of eutrophication. P emissions from different pathways and sources are a key issue in the protection of water quality and sustainable watershed management practices. We have estimated net anthropogenic P accumulation (NAPA), as an index of P pollut...
This study reports for the first time an estimation of the internal net joint forces and torques on adults' lower limbs and pelvis when walking in shallow water, taking into account the drag forces generated by the movement of their bodies in the water and the equivalent data when they walk on la...
