The presence of a viable population of hepatoblasts, epithelial blast cells, and endothelial and mesenchymal cells in a cryoconserved suspension of human fetal liver (FL) cells was shown. Epithelial-mesenchymal hepatoblast transformation in a cell culture was found. A possibility to apply the previously developed method of cryoconservation of human FL hematopoietic cells in the first trimester of gestation for the preservation of the heterogenic population of parenchymal and stromal cells was shown.
Transplantation of primary hepatocytes has been shown to augment the function of damaged liver and to “bridge” patients to liver transplantation. However, primary hepatocytes often have low levels of engraftment and short survival after transplantation. To explore the potential benefits of us...
Cardiac stem cells (CSCs) delivered to the infarcted heart generate a large number of small fetal-neonatal cardiomyocytes that fail to acquire the differentiated phenotype. However, the interaction of CSCs with postmitotic myocytes results in the formation of cells with adult characteristics.Meth...
Human pluripotential stem cells (PSC) are currently the target for transplantation attempts and genetic manipulation. We have therefore investigated the frequency and the expansion potential of PSC's in different types of blood samples. CD 34+ cells were thus obtained from human bone marrow (BM),...
Islet transplantation is a promising therapy used to achieve glycometabolic control in a select subgroup of individuals with type I diabetes. However, features that characterize human islet isolation success prior to transplantation are not standardized and lack validation. We conducted a retrosp...

Limited availability of in vitro and in vivo model systems has hampered efforts to understand tumor biology and test novel therapies for ependymoma, the third most common malignant brain tumor that occurs in children. To develop clinically relevant animal models of ependymoma, we directly injecte...
'Conformational diseases' are a group of diverse disorders that have been associated with misfolding of specific proteins, leading to their aggregation in particular cell tissues. Despite their relevance, the mechanisms involved in neurodegenerative processes remains poorly understood. Mutations ...
Dopamine pretreatment has been used to confer protection against cellular injury following hypothermia or anoxia, especially in vascular endothelial cells. Ischemia/reperfusion-associated tissue alterations still represent a major drawback in liver transplantation. The present study was aimed to ...
To minimize the necessary number of biopsies for molecular and histological research we evaluated different sampling techniques, fixation methods, and storage procedures for canine liver tissue. For addressing the aim, three biopsy techniques (wedge biopsy, Menghini, True-cut), four storage metho...
Cryopreservation of oocytes and embryos is commonly used to preserve fertility. However, women undergoing cancer treatment may not have the time or may not be good candidates for these options. Ovarian cortical tissue cryopreservation and subsequent tissue transplant has been proven successful ye...
