The surface property of an amphiphilic cyclodextrin 2-O-(hydroxypropyl-N,N-dimethyl-N-dodecylammonio)-I2-cyclodextrin (HPDMA-C12-CD) was investigated using oscillating bubble rheometer and electrical conductivity method at different temperatures. The surface tension and dilational viscoelasticity of HPDMA-C12-CD were provided. The results showed that HPDMA-C12-CD could adsorb on the air-water interface, which decreased the surface tension of water efficiently. Critical micelle concentration (cmc) can be clearly defined from the surface tension isotherm. pC20 and picmc were derived from the surface tension isotherms as well. The thermodynamic parameters (IG"‰"‰ 0m"‰"‰, IH"‰"‰ 0m"‰"‰, -TIS"‰"‰ 0m) derived from electrical conductivity indicated that the micellization of HPDMA-C12-CD was entropy-driven at lower temperature, while it was enthalpy-driven at higher temperature. The dilational modulus appeared a maximum value while the phase angle appeared two maxima as a function of HPDMA-C12-CD concentration.
Two hydrophobically modified PNIPAM semitelechelics PxF9 were prepared by "clicking" PNIPAM containing an azide endgroup (PxN3) with nonadecafluoro-1-decyl hex-5-ynoate (F9). Micelles of PxF9 in water with a core of F9-segments and a PNIPAM corona were detected by dynamic light scattering and by ...
Syntactic foams containing 60 vol% of hollow glass microballoons in epoxy matrix are modified with untreated nanoclays using combined mechanical and ultrasonication methods. Effects of nanoclays on flexure and thermal behavior of syntactic foams are investigated by adding different amount of nano...
The glass-based microfluidic chip has widely been applied to the lab-on-a-chip for clotting tests. Here, we have demonstrated a capillary driven flow chip using the water-assisted CO2 laser ablation for crackless fluidic channels and holes as well as the modified low-temperature glass bonding wit...
The anionic hydrophobic association polyacrylamide (AFPAM) modified with fluorinated acrylate have been synthesized of acrylamide (AM), 2-acrylamide-2-methyl propanesulfonic acid (AMPS) and 2-(perfluorooctyl)ethyl acrylate (FEA) by free radical micellar copolymerization in aqueous solution utiliz...
New bionanoparticles have been prepared from horse spleen ferritin by grafting thermoresponsive poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide) (PNIPAAm) and photo-crosslinkable 2-(dimethyl maleinimido)-N-ethyl-acrylamide (DMIAAm) from the protein surface. The 72 addressable amino groups on the exterior of HSF were...
The eye and the brain are immunologically privileged sites, a property previously attributed to the lack of a lymphatic circulation. However, recent tracking studies confirm that these organs have good communication through classical site-specific lymph nodes, as well as direct connection through...
CAE surfactants (carboxylic acid end-standing triblock copolymers of poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide)) are amphiphiles that are able to bind multivalent cations thermo-reversibly; a property that can be used to develop new environmentally friendly separation and ion...
Hydrophobic crack-free alumina aerogel monoliths were fabricated by-Si(CH3)3 (trimethylsilyl substituent) modification of alcogels followed by an ambient pressure drying procedure. One-step solvent exchange and surface modification were simultaneously progressed by immersing alumina alcogels in t...
Ag-TiO2 nanostructured thin films with silver volume fraction of 0-40% were deposited on silicon and quartz substrates by radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering. The phase structure, surface composition, surface topography, optical properties, and hydrophilicity of the films were characterized...
Poly(vinylpyrrolidone-b-styrene) (PVP-b-PS) diblock copolymers tethered to glass surfaces were prepared, and the effects on protein adsorption and cellular behavior to the glass and the modified glass surfaces investigated. The PVP-b-PS grafting process was confirmed by water contact angle and XP...
