Adults and deutonymphs of a new water mite species of the genus Hygrobates Koch, 1837 (Acari, Hydrachnidia, Hygrobatidae) were found to parasitize the Hong Kong Newt, Paramesotriton hongkongensis Myers and Leviton, 1962 (Amphibia, Caudata, Salamandridae), endemic to Hong Kong and coastal areas of Guangdong Province: Hygrobates aloisii sp. nov. Males and females, as well as deutonymphs and larvae are described. A new subgenus – Lurchibates subgen. nov. – is defined to accommodate the species of the Hygrobates salamandrarum-group. The parasite–host association, infestation rate, attachment sites and the impact of mite infestation on the newts behaviour and body condition are investigated.

Host-parasite relationship of Ceratomyxa puntazzi n. sp. (Myxozoa: Myxosporea) and sharpsnout seabream Diplodus puntazzo (Walbaum, 1792) from the Mediterranean with first data on ceratomyxid host specificity in sparids
Sparidae are economically important fishes to both, fisheries and aquaculture in the Mediterranean. Species diversification is an important strategy for the development of Mediterranean aquaculture. One of the species recently introduced is the sharpsnout seabream Diplodus puntazzo (Walbaum, 1792...

Chorioptes mites: re-evaluation of species integrity
Chorioptes mites (Acari: Psoroptidae) are non-burrowing agents of mange which parasitize a wide range of domesticated and wild ungulates. Considerable historical confusion has surrounded the description and naming of the various species of Chorioptes. Here, the opisthosomal setae of male adult Ch...
A new phoretic mite species with remarks to the phenomenon “Sporothecae” (Acari, Scutacaridae; Hymenoptera, Aculeata)
We provide the first description of the mite species Imparipes (Imparipes) burgeri n. sp. (Scutacaridae, Heterostigmatina). The species is recorded from localities in Austria, Belgium, Germany, Poland and Slovakia. A total of 759 females have been found phoretic upon 45 host species belonging to ...

Taxonomy and phylogeny of Leptopilina species (Hymenoptera: Cynipoidea: Figitidae) attacking frugivorous drosophilid flies in Japan, with description of three new species
Despite the intensive use of the Leptopilina genus and its drosophilid hosts as model systems in the study of host–parasitoid interactions, the diversity and distribution of the species occurring in the Asian region remain elusive. Here we report the phylogeny of Japanese Leptopilina species at...
Phylogenetic relationships of the Rhacophorus everetti-group and implications for the evolution of reproductive modes in Philautus (Amphibia: Anura: Rhacophoridae)
This study presents the first phylogenetic analysis of the enigmatic Rhacophorus everetti species group and the first description of its unique tadpole. A total sample of 95 12S and 16S mitochondrial rDNA sequences were compiled including new sequence data from 28 rhacophorid species. Based on 13...

Towards a revised Amphinomidae (Annelida, Amphinomida): description and affinities of a new genus and species from the Nile Deep-sea Fan, Mediterranean Sea
The discovery of a new amphinomid species from wood falls deployed near cold seeps (1694 m) at the Nile Deep-sea Fan (Mediterranean Sea) highlights the need to revise Amphinomidae to better characterize amphinomid diversity. The phylogenetic affinities of the new amphinomid and 12 other species ...

Describing Habitat Occupation by Woodland Birds with Territory Mapping and Remotely Sensed Data: An Example using the Marsh Tit (Poecile palustris)Descriptión de la Ocupación de Habitat por Aves de Bosque a partir de Mapeo Territorial y Datos de Detectión
Changes in the structure of woodlands and forests, caused by shifts in management, stand maturity, and composition, have been implicated in the population decline of some bird species in Europe and North America. One such species is the Marsh Tit (Poecile palustris). We investigated relationships...
